First Season (2007)

1 Naruto Shippuden Episodes Guide

The beginning of Naruto Shippuden marks Naruto's return to Konoha. This season, Gaara becomes Kage of the Sand Village and is kidnapped by the Akatsuki. Naruto and Team 7, now made up of Sai, have the mission to rescue the shinobi.

Second Season (2007-2008)

2 Naruto Shippuden Episodes Guide

Team 7 is tasked with chasing after Sasuke, who is in Orochimaru's lair. Naruto ends up dueling his old friend and discovers that he is much more powerful. Sai reveals that he had orders to try to kill Sasuke, but gives up on the idea when he sees Naruto's friendship with the Uchiha clan member.

Despite the various fights, no character ends up being killed this season.

Third season (2008)

3 Naruto Shippuden Episodes Guide

This new anime arc is, for the most part, filler, meaning it is not in the original manga story and was produced exclusively for animation. These events do not interfere with the main plot of the series.

Naruto spends much of the season training after realizing that his friend and rival Sasuke is stronger. He spends the season developing his own techniques, following Kakashi's suggestion. The season ends when the Konoha ninja encounters Hidan and Kakuzu, two members of Akatsuki. The shinobi prepare to face them.

Fourth season (2008-2009)

Marked by the battles against the Akatsuki duo, the fourth season begins with the death of Asuma at the hands of Hidan and Kakuzu. The Konoha ninjas confront Hidan and Kakuzu, who are extremely powerful. During the fierce confrontation, Naruto manages to use his new technique: Wind Release: Rasenshuriken . The blow weakens Hidan and allows Shikamaru to avenge Asuma.

The two teams triumphantly return to Konoha, where they discover that Kurenai is pregnant with Asuma.

Fifth Season (2009)

Back in Konoha after the battle against the Akatsuki, Naruto realizes that he should not use his Rasenshuriken again: despite causing massive damage to the receiver, the technique also ends up causing injury to the sender.

Meanwhile, Orochimaru sees his body losing strength. While Kabuto goes to find a remedy for his teacher, Sasuke attacks and kills him, absorbing all the knowledge of his former captor. Sasuke then assembles a team to search for Itachi, whom he attempts to kill using his newly acquired powers. Deidara fights Sasuke and ends up attempting a suicide jutsu to defeat the Uchiha clan member, but fails.

Sixth Season (2009-2010)

Sasuke finds Itachi and the Uchiha brothers finally confront each other, with Sasuke triumphant. Before dying, the older brother gives Sasuke the Mangekyo. Madara reveals to Sasuke that Itachi murdered his family at the behest of the village councillors. So, the focus of the season goes to Jiraya.

Senin tells Tsunade that he will go to the rain village to gather information about the Akatsuki. However, as soon as he arrives at the village, Jiraya is detected by Pain. The senin loses the fight, but before dying, Jiraya sends a secret message to Konoha, informing it of Pain's plans. The season ends with Sasuke, who, along with his team, fights Killer Bee to try to capture the Eight-Tailed Jinchuuriki.

Seventh Season (2010)

Naruto and Shikamaru reveal the meaning of the letter sent by Jiraya: it said "The original is not any of the 6." Afterwards, Naruto leaves Konoha to train Senjutsu. While training, Pain meets Konan and Tobi and announces that he will invade Konoha.

The Akatsuki leader attacks using his Six Paths, making it difficult to defend the village and leaving many victims. The invaders search for Naruto in an attempt to capture the Jinchuuriki from him. The ninjas resist, splitting into teams to try to stop Pain.

In the midst of the confrontation, Tsunade finally realizes the meaning of Jiraya's message and discovers the key to stopping Pain. Pain's true identity was Nagato, who was far from controlling the six bodies with his chakra. Naruto finally begins to fight Pain.

During the confrontation, Hinata saves Naruto's life and reveals her love for the ninja, who ends up releasing the 8 tails of his Jinchuuriki. The spirit of her father, Minato, appears and reseals the demon in Naruto, who regains consciousness and manages to defeat Pain.

Naruto finds Nagato, who reveals his past to the young man and tells him his true intentions. Nagato ends up sacrificing himself to restore the lives of all the villagers killed or injured in his attack on Konoha. Naruto returns to the village as a hero, but is shocked to learn that Tsunade is in a coma and that Danzou will be the new Hokage.

With Tsunade in a coma and Danzou in the position of Hokage, a large meeting of Kages is held to formulate a strategy to deal with Akatsuki. As the organization progresses, the village leaders come to an agreement and join together. The 4th begins. Shinobi World War.

Ninth season (2011)

9 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

Sasuke and Danzou confront each other, with the Uchiha clan member killing Konoha's new Hokage. In his place, Kakashi is chosen to lead the Village during the World War. Kakashi, Naruto and Sakura encounter Sasuke and a battle ensues. As Kakashi is about to be named, Tsunade wakes up from her coma. Nations are preparing for the Great War.

Tenth Season (2011-2012)

10 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

Most of the season shows Naruto and the other Konoha ninja training. Afterwards, Naruto spends time with Killer Bee, better understanding Kyuubi from him and learning how to use his chakra. The ninja needs to fight his inner demon and, in the process, he ends up seeing his father and mother again. Meanwhile, the shinobi continue to prepare for war with Akatsuki, who has revived many of their members.

Eleventh Season (2012)

11 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

The Fourth Shinobi World War finally begins. Kabuto tests the resurrected corpses of him on the battlefield. The allied ninjas are divided into battalions, trying at all costs to protect the Jinchuurikis from the opponents and their zetsus. Naruto wants to get involved in combat, although it is recommended that he stay away from it so as not to risk losing his Kyuubi.

Twelfth Season (2012-2013)

12 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

The 4th Ninja World War intensifies. Naruto and Killer Bee finally join their friends on the battlefield. Naruto spreads his clones across the battlefield, managing to confront the armies of Zetsus. Kabuto reveals his great secret weapon: Madara Uchiha. Details of Gaara's past are also revealed.

This season, there are no deaths of the main characters.

Thirteenth season (2013)

13 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

With Madara Uchiha summoned to the battlefield, the war takes on another proportion. The Uchiha clan member summons a meteor over the battlefield. Additionally, the allied Shinobi forces must also deal with Tobi, the enigmatic masked enemy.

Fourteenth season (2013-2014)

14 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

Tobi reveals his true identity: he is Obito Uchiha, Kakashi's former partner. Madara and Obito confront the allied Shinobi. Obito's past is revealed and what led him to become bitter and hateful. Obito's plan to bring the Ten Tails to life is in progress.

At the end of the season, Obito is injured and returns to Madara's hideout.

None of the main characters die this season.

Fifteenth Season (2014)

15 Naruto Shipuuden Seasons Guide

With the power of the Ten Tails, Madara and Obito attack Naruto and his friends. Neji gives his life to protect Naruto and Hinata. Sasuke discovers more information about his family's past and decides to join the Allies to prevent Madara and Obito from advancing. Team 7 meets again.

Sixteenth Season (2014-2015)

16 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

Naruto shares his chakra with his allies, while Obito in Juubito form gives rise to the Legendary Tree. To try to stop Juubito, the ninjas put the villain in an illusion, capable of making Obito see the beauty of the world. Obito then attempts to use a jutsu to resurrect all the shinobi, but his body is taken over by Black Zetsu, who intends to reinforce Madara.

The season ends with Naruto and Sasuke seriously injured and Madara even more powerful.

Seventeenth season (2015)

17 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

This season, the origin of chakra is revealed through Hagoromo Otsutsuki. Madara is still unbeatable. Guy is ready to fight the villain, using all of his energy in exchange for his life. Even at his full potential, he cannot stop Madara, but his life is saved by Naruto.

No main characters die this season.

Eighteenth season (2015-2016)

18 Naurto Shippuden Seasons Guide

The entire season is made up of filler, with the exception of the last episode. Madara attempts to capture Team 7 within the dream world she created. It is then that the Black Zetsu stabs him and reveals that he did it to resurrect his mother, Kaguya Otsutsuki. The people trapped in Madara's world were destined to become the White Zetsu. Madara has his entire body possessed by him and, in his place, Kaguya appears.

Nineteenth season (2016)

19 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

Kaguya transports Team 7 to another dimension, where they begin attacking Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi. Naruto manages to trick Kaguya and contact Obito, who joins the ninjas in an attempt to stop Kaguya. Obito gives his life to try to stop the villain.

With the help of Kakashi, Naruto and Sasuke manage to seal Kaguya and thus avoid the entity's trump card.

Twentieth Season (2016-2017)

19 Naruto Shippuden Seasons Guide

The final season functions as a sort of prologue to the anime and a prequel to Boruto . The episodes show the main characters preparing for Naruto and Hinata's wedding.
